Type YB Push-Button Telescopic Earthing Rod

HASEGAWA Type YB is a push-button telescopic earthing rod with an MA121-B head fitting, used for temporary earthing before maintenance on 77 kV and 154 kV transmission lines. It is available as YB2 for 154 kV and YB3 for 77 kV. At 8.1 kg including its case, the YB3 is the lightest set among HASEGAWA's transmission line earthing rods.

The model shares its push-button locking design with the Type Y; the difference is the MA121-B head fitting and lower weight. It suits line crews who want to reduce the load carried up the tower. Made in Japan, the set is supplied as a genuine HASEGAWA product by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.

Where is it used?

• Work on towers: the light design makes it easier to carry the rod and case up the tower; the YB2 weighs 9.6 kg including its case.
• 77 kV lines: with 1.4 m extended length and 0.9 m transport length, the YB3 is also easy to handle in tight substation yards.
• Fault repair on 154 kV lines: with a 4 m, 22 mm² lead, the YB2 covers the distance between the conductor and the earthing point.
• Crews using MA121-B fittings: if your inventory includes earthing equipment with MA121-B heads, the YB keeps your fitting standard.

Type YB or Type Y?

The two models have the same voltage classes and the same transport lengths; the choice depends on head fitting and weight:

The YB2 is 1.9 kg lighter than the Y2 and the YB3 0.9 kg lighter than the Y3; in return, the extended length is 10 cm shorter. If you need a longer reach, consider the compression-lock Type Z (2.6 m for Z2, 4.0 m for Z1); for the Type ZB we confirm the values in the quotation.

Limits of use and safety

A lighter design does not change the approach distance rules: the YB2 must not be used on lines above 154 kV, nor the YB3 above 77 kV, and because the extended length is shorter, the working position should be planned in advance against the approach distance. Absence of voltage is checked immediately before application with a suitable hot stick high-voltage detector; the earth connection is made first and removed last. Confirm that the MA121-B fitting is fully seated on the conductor, and wear insulating gloves and a safety helmet.
