Type HA-W Universal Cubicle Earthing Set

HASEGAWA Type HA-W is a universal cubicle earthing set for medium-voltage cubicles, switchboards and high-voltage consumer substations. De-energised busbars and connection points are bonded to each other and to earth with three phase leads, protecting personnel against unexpected re-energisation for the duration of the maintenance work. The set is an improved version of HASEGAWA's standard Type H.

On the Type HA-W the phase ends attach to the conductor with insulated rubber clips, while a 572 mm insulating stick makes it easier to reach into the cubicle. Designed for maintenance crews, DSOs and the electrical departments of industrial sites, the set is made in Japan and supplied as a genuine HASEGAWA product by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.

How does a cubicle earthing set work?

An earthing set short-circuits the three phases of a de-energised circuit and connects them to earth, creating a temporary safe zone. If the circuit is accidentally re-energised, or a voltage is induced from neighbouring lines, the current flows to earth through the leads of the earthing set rather than through the worker.

On the Type HA-W the connection is made as follows: first the 8 mm² × 5 m earth lead is attached to the installation's earthing point with the clip, then the three 1.2 m, 22 mm² phase leads are fitted to the busbars with the rubber clips, using the insulating stick. The set does not include a driven earth spike; the existing earth bar in the cubicle is used.

Because the lead cross-sections are the same, both models are used in similar cubicles; what sets the HA-W apart is its defined 572 mm insulating stick and larger carrying case. Limits of use and safety

An earthing set may only be applied to a circuit that has been verified as dead. After the cubicle circuit breaker and disconnector have been opened, absence of voltage must be checked with a voltage detector suited to the cubicle's voltage level. Always connect earth first, then the phases; remove the phases first and the earth last. This follows the "verify absence of voltage" and "earth and short-circuit" steps of the five safety rules in EN 50110-1.

The lead cross-section must be assessed against the prospective short-circuit current of the installation; the set must not be used without this assessment. If a rubber clip is torn or a lead is crushed or has broken strands, take the set out of service. Wearing PPE such as insulating gloves and a face shield is recommended during application.
