Transmission Line Earthing Sets

In transmission line earthing, the earthing clamp is fitted to the disconnected conductor from the ground or a platform using an insulating stick. The HASEGAWA products in this subcategory are telescopic earthing rods developed for this task: short for transport and extendable to the required length in use. Line maintenance crews of transmission and distribution system operators, substation operators and power contractors are the main users.

The models fall into two families according to their locking design. In the compression-locking type (Type Z / ZB) the telescopic sections are fixed at the required length by tightening; in the push-button type (Type Y / YB) the sections are fixed by a push-button lock. Which one to choose is often decided by the crew's habits and the length required.

Points to note in use

• Before earthing, the absence of voltage must be verified with a hot-stick high-voltage detector suited to the line's voltage class.
• Connect the earthing lead to the earth point first and reach the conductor with the stick last; remove in the reverse order.
• Check that the sections are locked after extending; do not work with a cracked, dirty or damp stick.
• The earthing must remain in place until the work is complete and all personnel have moved away from the line.
