HSH-K6 Disconnector Operating Rod with Voltage Detector

HASEGAWA HSH-K6 is a disconnector operating rod with a voltage detector integrated into its body, developed for AC 6.6 kV distribution systems. By combining disconnector opening and closing with a voltage check in one tool, it lets the operator see the state of the conductor without switching to a separate detector.

The detector responds at 1300 V ± 20% to earth and keeps its sound and light alarm going continuously for as long as it detects voltage. The light is specified to be visible at 8,000 lx ambient illuminance and the sound to be at least 50 dB at 2 m. Where is it used?

• 6.6 kV disconnector switching: when cubicle or pole-mounted disconnectors are opened and closed with a hook stick, the state of the conductor is checked with the same rod before and after switching.
• Verification after isolation: after the disconnector is opened, the load-side conductor is touched to confirm that the alarm stops; earthing and permit-to-work steps then follow.
• Noisy and bright sites: a sound level above 50 dB at 2 m and brightness visible in daylight help the alarm to be noticed in outdoor switchyards.
• Insulated covered conductors: the manufacturer specifies the detection threshold via an insulated covered conductor, so checks can also be made on covered distribution lines.

Limits of use and safety

The HSH-K6 is specified only for AC 6.6 kV systems; it must not be used for switching or testing at higher voltage classes. Because the detection threshold is around 1300 V to earth, induced voltages below this value may not trigger an alarm; the absence of an alarm alone must not be taken as sufficient to work without earthing.

Test the detector function before every use; to choose a suitable tester, see the voltage detector testers category. Hold the rod only by its grip section, and wear insulating gloves, a safety helmet and a face shield. If cracks, moisture or contamination are noticed on the body surface, do not use the rod until it has been cleaned and inspected.
