SA109 Series Disconnector Operating Rod

The HASEGAWA SA109 Series is a family of hook-type disconnector operating rods used to open and close disconnectors from 10 kV to 110 kV. The series comprises rod lengths from 1.0 m to 6.0 m depending on voltage class, with A and B models for indoor use and C models for outdoor use.

In the classes up to 40 kV the rod is a one-piece Φ31 mm body; in the 70 kV and 110 kV models, sections of Φ31, Φ34 and Φ39 mm diameter are joined in two or three pieces. At the tip, an SA108-B, SA108-C or SA108-E hook fitting is used depending on voltage class. Suited to transmission and distribution network operators, substation operators and large industrial sites, the series is supplied as genuine HASEGAWA products by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.

Where is it used?

• MV cubicles and switchyards (10 kV – 40 kV): one-piece models of 1.0 – 3.0 m are used for hook-stick switching of indoor or outdoor disconnectors.
• 70 kV substations: two-piece rods of 4.0 m and 5.0 m reach elevated disconnector contacts from a safe distance.
• 110 kV switchyards: the 6.0 m models are available in two or three pieces; the three-piece option gives a shorter length for transport and storage.
• Outdoor applications: C models are designated for outdoor use; A or B models are preferred in indoor cubicles.

If you will be working inside cubicles with a short, light rod, especially in 6.6 kV and 10 kV cubicles, the D Series is the more practical option. Outdoor disconnectors, voltage classes above 40 kV or elevated contacts require the SA109. 6.6 kV users who also want to check voltage during switching can look at the HSH-K6.

Limits of use and safety

Each model must only be used in its own voltage class; for example, an A-2 rod specified for 30 kV must not be used on a 70 kV disconnector. Hold the rod only by its grip area and never move your hand beyond the grip mark. Indoor models must not be used outdoors in rain, moisture or pollution.

On jointed models, do not operate until the joints are fully seated and locked. Disconnector switching is not an on-load operation; in line with operating instructions, open the circuit breaker first, then open the disconnector, check the line with a voltage detector and earth it.
