Type HF Universal Cubicle Earthing Set

HASEGAWA Type HF is a universal cubicle earthing set supplied with a driven earth spike. In medium-voltage cubicles and high-voltage consumer substations it allows de-energised conductors to be temporarily earthed even where the earth bar is far away or not available at all.

The set includes a Φ26 × 338 mm insulating stick, a wide-angle adjustable head, three 1.5 m phase leads of 22 mm² cross-section, a 15 m long 8 mm² earth lead and a Φ10 driven earth spike, with a total weight of 3.4 kg. Where is it used?

• Cubicles with a distant earth bar: the 15 m earth lead makes the connection without extra cable where the distance between the cubicle and the installation's earthing point is long.
• Temporary or field installations: where a permanent earth bar cannot be accessed, the Φ10 spike can be driven into the ground to form an earth connection; the adequacy of this connection must be assessed separately.
• Deep or narrow cubicles: the 338 mm insulating stick and angle-adjustable head make it easier to approach the busbar from different angles.
• Installations with a high short-circuit level: the 22 mm² phase leads offer a thicker cross-section than the 14 mm² Type HC.

Both models use 22 mm² phase leads. The Type H is sufficient for standard clip-type applications right next to the earth bar; the HF, with an earth lead three times as long, a spike and an angle-adjustable head, gives flexibility on sites with more variable layouts. The model with the same head but thinner leads and no spike is the Type HC; the standard clip-type set is the Type H.

Limits of use and safety

The resistance of an earth connection made with a spike varies with the soil; wherever possible use the installation's existing earth bar, and use the spike only if no such bar is available and a competent person has approved the connection. The 15 m earth lead should be fully unrolled and protected against crushing where it crosses walkways.

Before the phase ends are fitted, absence of voltage on all conductors is verified with a suitable voltage detector. Connect earth first, then the phases; remove in the reverse order.
