HASEGAWA Type HC is a universal cubicle earthing set with an angle-adjustable head. In medium-voltage cubicles it is used to temporarily short-circuit and earth busbars and cable terminations once the circuit breaker and disconnector have been opened.
The set comprises a Φ26 mm insulating stick, three phase leads of 14 mm² cross-section, a 7 m long 8 mm² earth lead and a clip connector, with a total weight of 3.4 kg. Designed for narrow or deep cubicles where the busbar cannot be reached in a straight line, the HC is supplied as a genuine HASEGAWA product by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.
In a de-energised cubicle, an open circuit breaker or disconnector alone does not provide sufficient safety: a switching error, back-feed or voltage induced from neighbouring lines can make the conductors live again. The earthing set joins the three phases at one point and connects them to earth, so that in the event of re-energisation the current flows to earth through the leads rather than through the worker, and the protection relay can trip the circuit.
With the Type HC the sequence is as follows: the 8 mm² × 7 m earth lead is clipped to the earth bar, then for each phase the end of the 1 m, 14 mm² lead is fitted to the conductor using the stick. Because the head is wide-angle adjustable, the stick can be brought into the correct position even when approaching the busbar from different directions. The set has no earth spike; the existing earth bar is used for the earth connection.
| Type HC | Type HF | |
|---|---|---|
| Head fitting | Wide-angle adjustable type | Wide-angle adjustable type |
| Insulating stick | Φ26 mm | Φ26 × 338 mm |
| Phase leads | 14 mm² × 1 m × 3 | 22 mm² × 1.5 m × 3 |
| Earth lead | 8 mm² × 7 m × 1 | 8 mm² × 15 m × 1 |
| Driven earth spike | None | Φ10 |
| Weight | 3.4 kg | 3.4 kg |
These two models share the same head, so the choice comes down to lead cross-section and the earthing point on site. If the earth bar is close by in the cubicle and the calculated fault current can be carried by 14 mm², the HC is sufficient; if you need thicker phase leads, a 15 m earth lead or a driven earth spike, choose the Type HF. For the standard clip-type set, see Type H.
The 14 mm² phase cross-section is the thinnest lead in the range, so the prospective short-circuit current and its duration must be assessed in advance for every installation where the Type HC is to be used. Using it on an installation with a higher fault current without this calculation is not recommended.
Before applying the set, absence of voltage must be checked on every phase with a suitable voltage detector, and the detector's function confirmed with a tester. Wear insulating gloves and a face shield during connection; the earth lead is attached first and removed last. Do not use the set if the angle-adjustment mechanism of the head has play, or if leads are crushed or have broken strands. General rules are covered in our article on safe working with earthing sets.
Frequently Asked Questions
The manufacturer defines the Type HC head as a wide-angle adjustable type. The angle adjustment helps seat the stick on the conductor at the correct angle, even in cubicles where the busbar cannot be reached in a straight line.
The manufacturer's table gives the stick diameter as Φ26 mm; as the length is not clearly stated in the table, it is confirmed against manufacturer information at quotation stage.
No. The Type HC has no spike; the 7 m earth lead is clipped to the earth bar in the cubicle. If you need a spike, consider the Type HF.
