Custom Fixed / Detachable Earthing Set

The HASEGAWA custom fixed / detachable earthing set is an earthing set configured to order according to voltage class, used to earth de-energised lines and installations during maintenance. Head fitting, insulating stick length, earthing lead and earth clamp are selected together to build a set for applications from 6.6 kV up to 275 kV.

How to select a custom earthing set

The set bonds the three phases to each other and to earth so that, if the circuit is accidentally energised, current flows to earth through the set rather than through personnel. The right set is built with a stick length suited to the voltage class and a lead cross-section suited to the short-circuit current. HASEGAWA defines this with a class (Type) system.

For the large fixed type MA121-A (MA121-C) and universal fixed type MA111-A (MA111-C) heads, the standard classes with Neo pipe insulating stick and SA107C earth clamp are:

For the medium fixed type MA122-A and cubicle fixed type MA115-A heads, classes Type 5 – Type 20 (0.5 m – 2.0 m stick) are used with 14 mm² × 3–4 m leads and the SA107B earth clamp; the applicable voltage is 6.6 kV or 22 kV. For Type 60, whether the stick is in two or three pieces is specified in the order.

Limits of use and safety

The set may only be applied to a circuit where absence of voltage has been verified with a voltage detector suited to the system voltage. Connect to the earthing point first, then to the phases; removal is carried out in the reverse order. The classes in the table show the match between stick length and voltage; the adequacy of the lead cross-section for the installation's short-circuit current must be assessed separately.
