HST-170 Hot Stick High Voltage Detector

HASEGAWA HST-170 is a hot stick high voltage detector built for transmission-level installations in the AC 60 kV – 195.5 kV range. Typical European transmission levels such as 110 kV, 132 kV and 150 kV fall within this range, and 66 kV installations are covered too. Manufactured in Japan by Hasegawa Electric, it is supplied as a genuine HASEGAWA product by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.

The detector is used by substation operations teams, transmission line maintenance crews and the electrical managers of large industrial sites supplied at high voltage. With its standard 3145 mm stick, it allows measurements to be taken from the distance that high-voltage equipment requires.

Where is it used?

• 110 kV – 150 kV substations: Verifying the absence of voltage on line feeders, busbars and transformer connections after the disconnectors have been opened and before the earthing switches are closed.
• Transmission line maintenance: Line-end checks before insulator string, damper or conductor repairs during planned outages.
• 66 kV installations: Routine operational checks in 66 kV switchyards at the lower end of the range.
• Large consumers: Steel, cement and chemical plants with their own high-voltage switchyard.

The ranges of the two models overlap between 150 kV and 195.5 kV. For 110 kV – 150 kV work, the HST-170 is the main choice; if you also work at a higher voltage level or need longer reach, we can consider the HST-250 or HST-170J with you. For the 33 kV – 66 kV band, the HST-70 is more suitable.

Limits of use and safety

The HST-170 is not designed for installations below 60 kV; for MV feeders, choose lower-class models in the hot stick high voltage detectors category. Before measuring, confirm that the detector works with a suitable voltage detector tester or a known live point. Approach distances at transmission voltages are large; the stick must be used at full length, held only by the grip area, and personal protective equipment must be worn in full.
