HST-70 Hot Stick High Voltage Detector

HASEGAWA HST-70 is a hot stick high voltage detector operating from AC 20 kV – 80.5 kV. It allows upper distribution levels, such as 33 kV and 66 kV switchgear, to be checked with the same instrument. Manufactured in Japan by Hasegawa Electric, it is supplied as a genuine HASEGAWA product by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.

The detector sits at the end of an insulated stick that is 2260 mm long as standard; the user touches the conductor from this distance to find out whether the line is live. Its main users are DSOs, industrial sites with 66 kV supplies, wind and solar plant operators and switchyard maintenance contractors.

Where is it used?

• Primary substations: Checks on cable terminations and busbars of MV outgoing feeders after the circuit breaker has been opened.
• 66 kV switchyards: The final verification just before the earthing switch is closed, ahead of disconnector or instrument-transformer maintenance.
• Plant grid-connection substations: Step-up transformer outputs where wind and solar farms connect to the grid.
• High-mounted equipment: Greater reach with the HST-70H or HST-70J versions at points the standard stick cannot reach.

66 kV falls within the range of both models; however, only the HST-70 can be used on 33 kV lines, and only the HST-170 on 110 kV – 150 kV installations. Limits of use and safety

Because the lower limit of the HST-70 is 20 kV, it does not give reliable results on lower MV levels such as 6 kV, 10 kV or 15 kV; a detector of a lower class should be chosen for these lines. Before every measurement, test that the detector works properly with a suitable voltage detector tester or at a point known to be live. The stick must be held only by the marked grip area; on the long versions, too, the hand must not go beyond this limit. The user must wear insulating gloves and face protection suited to the voltage class and keep a safe approach distance. Measurements must not be taken with a wet, dirty or scratched stick. Once the absence of voltage is confirmed, work must not start until the line has been earthed with earthing sets.
