HSR-90N AC/DC Hot Stick High Voltage Detector

HASEGAWA HSR-90N is an AC/DC hot stick high voltage detector covering the 6 kV – 90 kV range on both AC and DC. Its wide range, extending from medium voltage up to the 66 kV level, lets one instrument serve teams working across different voltage classes. Manufactured in Japan by Hasegawa Electric, it is supplied by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official HASEGAWA distributor in Türkiye, to customers across Europe.

The instrument starts to give an indication at 1000 V on AC and 3000 V on DC (both ± 20%, to earth). The body weighs approximately 1500 g and runs on two AAA (LR03 or R03) batteries. Its main users are maintenance teams at distribution and transmission installations, DC high voltage test laboratories and mobile fault crews attending different voltage levels.

Where is it used?

• 20 kV and 33 kV distribution installations: checks before earthing at primary substation outlets, compact substations and overhead line connections.
• 66 kV switchyards: confirming absence of voltage after the disconnectors have been opened, before busbar and feeder maintenance.
• DC systems: checks after the source has been disconnected on DC supply and test set-ups in the 6 kV – 90 kV range.

The HST-70 suits teams who work only on AC 33 kV and 66 kV lines and want a choice of stick lengths. If you also need to test DC systems, or you work on medium voltage levels below 20 kV, the HSR-90N offers broader coverage. If your applications do not exceed 25 kV, the lighter AC/DC model HST-20N is also an option.

Limits of use and safety

Do not use the HSR-90N below 6 kV or above 90 kV; for 110 kV – 150 kV installations, choose a model of the appropriate class such as the HST-170. As the DC starting threshold is 3000 V ± 20%, residual DC voltages below it may not produce an indication; discharge any remaining charge in capacitive circuits with discharge sticks. Before every measurement, confirm that the detector works with a suitable voltage detector tester or at a point known to be live. The user must wear gloves and protective equipment rated for the voltage class and keep to the approach distance. Do not use the instrument outside −10 °C … +40 °C.
