Hand-held HLA series testers with built-in battery for verifying in the field that voltage detectors work correctly before use.

A voltage detector tester is a portable check device used to verify in the field that a voltage detector works correctly before use. The most dangerous error a detector can make is to indicate "no voltage" on a live conductor; a device damaged by a weak battery, a drop or moisture can cause exactly this error. Testers are therefore regarded as an essential companion to the detector for distribution and maintenance crews, team leaders and safety managers who use voltage detectors. All HASEGAWA HLA series testers are hand-held with a built-in battery and are easy to carry on site.
| Model | Design | Selection note |
|---|---|---|
| HLA-1A | Hand-held, built-in battery | Compatible detectors confirmed per model |
| HLA-2G | Hand-held, built-in battery | Compatible detectors confirmed per model |
| HLA-3 | Hand-held, built-in battery | Compatible detectors confirmed per model |
| HLA-N2 DC | Hand-held, built-in battery | For DC applications |
Because compatibility with the detector is what matters for a tester, the table gives the design and a selection note instead of a voltage range. For the voltage ranges of the detectors you check, see the voltage detectors page.
We cover this topic in detail in our article Why Is Periodic Inspection of Voltage Detectors Important?.
The detector's own test function and an external tester complement each other. An external tester lets you see the detector's response with a separate device and provides an additional check for faults that a self-test might miss.
The most practical rule is to test the detector at the start of every job and after any doubtful event (a drop, getting wet, a long period without use).
