HASEGAWA HLA-N2 DC is a voltage detector tester with DC output, developed to test voltage detectors used on direct current (DC) systems. The unit produces a DC 1000 V test voltage; seeing the DC detector respond correctly to this source confirms that it is ready for use.
AC testers may not stimulate the sensing circuit of a DC detector correctly; the HLA-N2 DC is designed to close that gap. The distinction is clear: use the HLA-1A, the HLA-2G or the 4000 V HLA-3 for AC detectors, and the HLA-N2 DC for DC detectors. Teams that use both AC and DC detectors need a tester of each type.
The HLA-N2 DC is a test source that shows the detector is working; it does not itself detect whether a DC line or busbar is dead. Test the detector on the HLA-N2 DC first, then check the line for voltage, and test the detector again at the end of the job. Testing AC detectors with this unit will not give a correct result.
Although the short-circuit current is limited to 0.5 mA or less, do not touch the DC 1000 V output terminal with bare hands. Remember that a residual charge may remain in DC systems after the supply is disconnected; use a discharge stick where necessary. Weak batteries can affect the test result, so keep spare LR03 batteries to hand.
