HASEGAWA HST-1.5N is an AC/DC voltage detector with an FRP insulated stick that works on both alternating and direct current. It checks for voltage on AC and DC 600 V – 7000 V systems, which makes it stand out on DC systems where AC-only detectors fall short. The rugged, lightweight FRP stick, with a main body of approx. 340 g, is easy to carry on site.
DC systems such as DC 1500 V and AC installations up to 6.6 kV fall within the same range. HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye, supplies the Japanese-made HST-1.5N as a genuine HASEGAWA product.
There are also models designed for railway-specific applications such as catenary and third rail; for these, see the railway products category.
| HST-1.5N | HSE-7G | |
|---|---|---|
| Current type | AC and DC | AC only |
| Operating range | 600 V – 7000 V | 60 V – 7000 V |
| Dielectric strength | AC 14000 V, 5 minutes | 20 kV, 1 minute |
| Battery and continuous operation | 2 × LR44, 4 hours | 2 × LR44, 3 hours |
| Weight | Approx. 340 g (main body) | Approx. 55 g |
If the system you will check carries direct current, the HST-1.5N is the choice. If you work on AC networks only and also need to see voltages below 600 V, the HSE-7G is more suitable.
The lower limit of the HST-1.5N is 600 V; on 230/400 V low-voltage installations it may give no indication even when voltage is present. Low voltage detectors must be used on these systems. The detector must not be used on AC or DC systems above 7000 V.
On DC systems, capacitor banks and long cables can retain a charge even after disconnection. After checking with the detector, discharge and earth with a discharge stick where necessary. Before use, confirm that the detector works; the stick must be clean and dry, and insulating gloves and PPE must be used. For teams working on railway sites, our article on voltage testing on catenary lines offers further information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. It operates from 600 V – 7000 V on both AC and DC.
Strings and inverter inputs at DC 1000 V – 1500 V are within its operating range. For voltages below 600 V, a separate low voltage detector is required.
No. Because its operating range starts at 600 V, it does not give reliable results on low-voltage networks.
With 2 × LR44 (1.5 V) batteries it can be used for 4 hours of continuous operation.
