Type R DC Railway Earthing Hook

HASEGAWA Type R is a DC railway earthing hook used to bond the catenary to the rail during maintenance on DC 1500 V railway lines. Its key feature is that the operating stick and the conductor are combined in one body, which speeds up installation and keeps the work area tidy.

Designed for DC 1500 V catenary maintenance teams on suburban, metro and light-rail systems, the Type R is manufactured in Japan by HASEGAWA Electric and supplied by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.

Where is it used?

On DC lines, once the supply has been disconnected, the catenary is earthed by bonding it to the rail for the duration of maintenance. The Type R makes this connection easier with two practical details:

• No hanging lead: because the stick and conductor are integrated, no separate earth lead hangs down from the catenary, reducing the risk of it catching on equipment, vehicles or personnel.
• No need to pass under the rail: the rail-side earthing clamp is fixed securely without being passed under the rail. This shortens installation time on ballasted track and at points where access under the rail is difficult.

These features save time particularly in short night maintenance windows, when several points must be earthed in the same shift.

For standard DC 1500 V applications, the Type R is a ready-made solution. If the conductor diameter, stick length or lead length is non-standard, a made-to-order railway earthing hook can be considered.

Limits of use and safety

The Type R is only attached to a DC line that has been de-energised and verified dead. On DC 1500 V catenary, use a detector suitable for DC, such as the HVC-1.5N3, for the check; AC detectors do not give reliable results on a DC line. Fix the rail-side clamp first, then attach the hook to the catenary; remove in the reverse order.
