HSR-1.5NJ / 1.5NJ1 Railway Medium Voltage Detector

HASEGAWA HSR-1.5NJ / 1.5NJ1 is an AC/DC railway medium voltage detector that can be used on both AC 6.6 kV and DC lines at railway installations. The two versions are identical on the AC side; on the DC side the HSR-1.5NJ operates from 600 V – 7000 V and the HSR-1.5NJ1 from 1000 V – 7000 V. Railway power teams can check for voltage on both AC distribution and DC supply circuits with a single unit.

When voltage is detected, the unit gives a light and intermittent sound warning; the light is visible even at 8000 lx. Earthing is by clip-type connection, and the unit comes with a 7 m clip-type earth lead and a carrying case. The product is manufactured in Japan by HASEGAWA Electric and supplied by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.

Where is it used?

In railway infrastructure, AC medium-voltage distribution circuits and DC traction supply circuits are often the responsibility of the same teams. The HSR-1.5NJ / 1.5NJ1 offers a single-unit solution for this mixed set-up:

• Checking absence of voltage before maintenance on AC 6.6 kV distribution lines at railway installations
• Confirming that DC supply lines and the catenary have been switched off
• Clear visibility of the light warning during checks on open track in daylight
• The final verification step before earthing is applied

On the AC side the starting voltage is 2000 V ±20%, and the unit is used on 50/60 Hz systems. On the DC side the threshold is 400 V ±80 V for the HSR-1.5NJ and 800 V ±100 V for the HSR-1.5NJ1.

If you have an earthing point that a clip can be attached to, the NJ / NJ1 versions are suitable; choose the HSR-1.5NJ if you also want a warning at lower DC voltages, or the HSR-1.5NJ1 if you want a higher threshold. If you need fast earthing to a steel surface such as a rail and a two-stage DC indication, look at the HSR-1.5NR.

Limits of use and safety

The unit must only be used within its specified voltage ranges: systems above AC 6.6 kV and circuits above DC 7000 V are outside the scope of this model. For AC 25 kV catenary, choose a detector of the appropriate class such as the HST-W80JS. Before every use, check the batteries and the warning function, and make sure the earthing clip is connected to a sound earth point. Once absence of voltage has been verified, the line must be earthed with a railway earthing hook for the duration of the work.
