Custom Railway Earthing Hook

The HASEGAWA railway earthing hook is a made-to-order earthing hook used to earth a de-energised catenary for the duration of maintenance. Instead of a fixed catalogue set, the head fitting, stick length, earth lead and connection clamp are each selected according to the line's conductor diameter, mast and cantilever design, and earthing point.

This flexibility matters for catenary teams working on lines electrified at different times with different conductor types. The product is manufactured in Japan by HASEGAWA Electric and supplied, with configuration support, by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.

Where is it used?

Once absence of voltage has been verified, the hook is attached to the catenary conductor and keeps the line connected to the earthing point throughout the maintenance work. If the line is accidentally re-energised, or voltage is induced from adjacent lines, the current flows to earth through the hook and lead rather than through the team. Typical applications:

• Replacement of contact wire, messenger wire and insulators
• Planned maintenance in switch and crossing areas and on station tracks
• Earthing before work on top of vehicles on depot and workshop tracks

Conductor diameter determines the choice of head fitting. HASEGAWA's SA106 series hook-on heads come as the SA106-A and the angled SA106-C for the φ10–25 mm range, and the compact SA106-S for thinner conductors (φ4–10 mm).

If your line is a standard DC 1500 V system, the ready-made Type R may do the job; if you need different conductor diameters or special stick lengths, the custom hook is a better fit.

Limits of use and safety

The hook is only attached to a line that has been de-energised and verified dead; for the check, use a suitable catenary detector such as the HST-W80JS on AC lines. Always connect to the earth side first and then to the conductor; reverse the sequence when removing. The cross-section of the earth lead must be specified at order, taking into account the prospective short-circuit current of the line.
