HASEGAWA HXA-6 is an arm-mounted hot-line proximity alarm for overhead line work. Attached to the arm with a fastening band, it senses the electric field when approaching a live conductor in the AC 6.6 kV – 33 kV range and gives an audible warning. It was developed for line crews working at pole top on distribution networks.
Under standard conditions, the alarm activates at approximately 80 cm from the conductor and produces at least 65 dB at 1 m. The HXA-6 is manufactured in Japan by HASEGAWA Electric and supplied as a genuine HASEGAWA product by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.
An alternating electric field forms around an energised overhead line conductor. The HXA-6 monitors this field without contact; as the technician's arm approaches the conductor the field strength rises, and once the threshold is exceeded the audible alarm starts. Because the device is worn on the arm rather than held, the warning continues while the hands are busy with tools and materials.

The HXA-6 suits medium-voltage distribution lines up to 33 kV. For higher-voltage lines, choose the HXA-30 or HXA-70. The helmet-mounted version in the same voltage class is the HXA-6S, with an alarm distance of 110 cm. For switchgear and panel work, the wrist-worn HXW-6WL is more suitable.
The HXA-6 is a warning device, not a voltage detector. Before starting work on the line, the absence of voltage must be verified with a suitable voltage detector and the line must be earthed. The alarm distance can vary with line voltage, conductor arrangement and surrounding earthed structures, so the minimum approach distance must never be infringed just because the alarm has not sounded.
As the device is built for either 50 Hz or 60 Hz, specify 50 Hz when ordering for European networks. Check the battery before every shift and make sure the fastening band sits firmly on the arm. Insulating gloves, a safety helmet and other PPE continue to be used together with this device. For more detail, see our article What Is a Proximity Alarm?
Frequently Asked Questions
The HXA-6 is designed for overhead line work in the AC 6.6 kV – 33 kV range. The manufacturer specifies the device for overhead line work only.
Under standard conditions, the alarm starts at approximately 80 cm from the conductor. The actual distance may vary with line voltage and ambient conditions.
With a new CR2032 battery, it lasts approximately 15 hours in continuous operation and approximately 10 months when not in use.
The HXA-6 is worn on the arm, the HXA-6S on the helmet. The HXA-6S has an alarm distance of 110 cm and comes with two holders in addition to the fastening band.
