HASEGAWA HWB-110 is a universal joint high voltage detector designed for installations in the AC 35 kV – 110 kV range. In the HWB family it is the model that covers the transition from medium voltage to transmission level; 66 kV switchyards and 110 kV networks sit at the centre of this range.
110 kV is a widely used high voltage level in many European networks, and 66 kV is still found in some regional networks and in the private supplies of large industrial sites. The HWB-110 is a practical choice for DSOs, contractors and maintenance companies working at these levels. Manufactured in Japan by Hasegawa Electric, it is supplied by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official HASEGAWA distributor in Türkiye, to customers across Europe.
On detection, the instrument produces an intermittent sound of 80 dB or more and its red LED flashes; the flash is bright enough to be distinguished at 50,000 lux. The green LED lit on standby switches off by itself after approximately 2 minutes.

The HWB-110 and HWB-138 overlap at 66 kV and 110 kV. If you also have 132 kV or 138 kV installations, the HWB-138 is better suited for working with a single instrument; for levels between 35 kV and 66 kV, the HWB-110 provides coverage. 150 kV and 220 kV transmission levels are outside the HWB-110's range.
Use the HWB-110 only in installations within the 35 kV – 110 kV range; do not use it on 132 kV or 150 kV lines. Bring the detector towards the conductor on an insulating stick of a length and insulation level suited to the high voltage class. Before starting work, confirm the instrument on a point known to be live or with suitable testers. In the switchyard, the permit to work, visual confirmation of disconnector positions and earthing steps must be applied regardless of the detector result, in line with the five safety rules of EN 50110-1; for earthing, see our transmission line earthing sets. General information on model selection is in our voltage detector selection guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Both levels are outside the HWB-110's operating range of AC 35 kV – 110 kV. For 132 kV the HWB-138 can be considered, and for 150 kV the HWB-550A with its 11 kV – 550 kV range.
Both models cover 66 kV. If your installation has levels between 35 kV and 66 kV, the HWB-110 is the better fit; if it has 132 kV or 138 kV levels, the HWB-138 is.
The operating temperature in the spec table is −10 °C … +50 °C; use outside this range is not recommended.
