HWA-33P Universal-Joint High Voltage Detector

HASEGAWA HWA-33P is a 4-stage universal-joint voltage detector that covers the wide AC 1 kV – 35 kV range in four stages: 1 kV, 15 kV, 25 kV and 35 kV. It signals the presence of voltage with an audible warning of at least 70 dB. The main unit is supplied as a set with an insulating stick and a storage bag, which makes it a practical choice for crews who want to go to site without sourcing a separate stick.

It suits maintenance contractors visiting installations at different voltage levels, the electrical maintenance teams of industrial sites, and operators who work on equipment from around 1 kV up to 36 kV-class distribution switchgear. The instrument is manufactured in Japan by Hasegawa Electric and supplied as a genuine HASEGAWA product by HASEGAWA Türkiye, the official distributor in Türkiye.

Where is it used?

• Sites with mixed voltage levels: One instrument for checks in plants that have, for example, 6 kV motor feeders, 15 kV-class distribution and a 33 kV or 35 kV incomer on the same site.
• Compact substations and switchgear: Cable termination and busbar checks in MV switchgear; with the stick included in the set, preparation time is shorter.
• Field service crews: Crews visiting several customer sites in a day can work without carrying a separate detector for each voltage level.
• Noisy environments: The audible warning of at least 70 dB keeps the result audible in areas with compressors or generators.

For 34.5 kV–35 kV distribution systems and for levels below 11 kV, the HWA-33P is the better fit. If distance-based early warning of live parts is your priority, consider the HWA-33X; if you only need a compact detector head for 6 kV – 35 kV, look at the HST-35V.

Limits of use and safety

The HWA-33P is for AC 1 kV – 35 kV systems only; use low voltage detectors for installations below 1 kV and higher-rated models above 35 kV. Use only AAA alkaline batteries; do not fit rechargeable batteries. Before each use, prove the detector on a known live source or with a suitable voltage detector tester. The stick supplied in the set must be dry, clean and free of cracks, and HV gloves and a face shield should be worn. Once the absence of voltage has been verified, do not start work until earthing has been applied, in line with the five safety rules of EN 50110-1.
